Skardu Visit By Air

Today we take you on a tour of Skardu, the most beautiful city of Pakistan. Skardu is the largest city and capital of Gilgit-Baltistan. The city is a commercial center as well as an important center for health, education and political and social activities. The people of Skardu are very friendly, cheerful, peaceful and hospitable. Skardu is a 10 km wide and 40 km long city surrounded by the Karakoram Mountains. It is located on the Indus River which separates the Karakoram range and the Himalayas. The highest natural parks of the world, Deosai and Astoor, can be visited only from Skardu city. Deosai National Park is the second highest park in the world which is 4114 meters above sea level. Skardu has the largest glaciers in the world. Some glaciers are located near the world's second highest peak, K2. Important and must-see places in Skardu include Shangri-La, Deosai National Park, Shayosar Lake, Skardu Fort, Mantuqa Falls, Kachora Lake, Satpara Lake and Satpara Dam etc.

Satpara Lake is the main lake of Skardu. It is about 10 km from Skardu city. This lake is the largest clear water lake. Trout fish are abundant here. While boating facility is also available. The government of Pakistan decided to build a dam here in 2002 and allocated 10 million dollars for it. The construction of Satpara Dam started in 2003 and was completed in December 2013. The dam is 2700 meters above sea level. In the summer season, the snow melt water from the mountains is collected in this dam through the lake. It was a multi-purpose project. This dam now provides clean drinking water to the entire Skardu city. It irrigates an area of ​​15000 acres and also generates electricity from this dam.

Chhora Lake has two parts. Less famous is Upper Kuchora Lake. While the Lower Shangri-La Lake is more famous which holds its own unique place in charm due to its deep blue water. Shangri-La also has a special reputation. There is a beautiful resort in Chinese style. Apart from this, a unique restaurant has been built in an aircraft that has fallen here, which is of special interest to tourists. Skardu Valley is reached by road via Karakoram Highway and Skardu Road. Air travel is also available. There is one daily PIA flight from Islamabad to Skardu. Skardu Airport is also of special importance in its beauty. Surrounded by mountains, Skardu Airport is 7320 feet above sea level.


Skardu Airport also has the status of International Airport Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has started international flights to Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan starting on 14 August 2023 when the first direct flight from Dubai landed at Skardu Airport. With the landing of PK234 where Skardu Airport is given the status of 'International Airport'. During the winter season, the roads are closed due to snowfall and the only means of transportation is air travel. However, due to the severity of the weather, sometimes air flights are also affected.

The weather in Skardu is cold due to the surrounding mountains and snow-capped mountain peaks. In December and January, the temperature drops to minus 10 degrees Celsius. It is cut off from the rest of the cities due to heavy snowfall. April to October is the best season for Skardu tourism. Then the temperature ranges from 8 to 27 degrees centigrade.
